Jergen's Soothing Aloe Relief Lotion

A favorite lotion of mine, second only to my favorite Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula lotion, is Jergens Soothing Aloe Relief lotion. I use Jergens Soothing Aloe Relief lotion every single day.

It is a light lotion, not meant for super dry skin, but it is wonderful at calming my super sensitive skin. My neck and chest area tends to get very blotchy, bumpy, and red. I rub this lotion into that area every morning and it keeps all the redness and blotchiness in check. It is also a great moisturizing lotion for just shaved legs. It never stings or causes irritation, and it always soaks in quickly leaving my legs smooth and soft. Jergens Soothing Aloe Relief lotion is also great to put on after being out in the sun or wind to soothe sunburned or wind burned skin.

Jergens Soothing Aloe Relief lotion is a deserted island product for me. I hope Jergens never discontinues it.

Jergens Natural Glow Express

Every spring it start, usually around March or April - first of all, the craving to go shopping for new spring outfit, and second of all, the desperate need not to scare people with my ghost like paleness in the afore mentioned new spring outfits.

The problem is, not only am I not a fan of skin cancer but I really don't tan that easily anyway. So to try and get an actual golden brown tan, for me, involves a minimum of several weeks away in a tropical resort somewhere and a whole lotta beach chair time…that would be my preferred method but makes for an expensive way to get a tan!

Ten or twelve years ago, when tanning lotion started to make an reappearance on store shelves once again, I was one of the first ones to sign up. Unfortunately, it just wasn't a great product. The smell was just horrifying, the color usually turned a very unflattering orange, it streaked like crazy, and there were not a lot of options when it came to skin shades. After a number of embarrassing streaky blotchy tries I gave up.

Fast forward to a few years ago and Jergen's came out with a miracle product called a gradual tanner…the idea being that you would normally moisturize every day anyway, why not get a beautiful golden glow at the same time. With the gradual tanners the idea is that they are a little more mistake proof since the color is built up slowly, usually over a period of a week or so.

I have tried almost all of the drugstore brands of gradual tanners. The smell, which is always one of the biggest complaints, but unfortunately just a part of using gradual tanner, is always there to some varying degree. Some brands are better than others at masking but it is never completely gone. The other issue is end result color. I think it is very hard to really review end result color of a gradual tanner because it all comes down to how the chemical reacts with each individual person and their skin tone. I do find, though, no matter what brand, there is a point were it reaches over use and then orange skin is the result no matter what your skin tone.

My most recent favorite gradual tanner is Jergen's Express Glow.

When I saw Jergen's Express Glow I figured this might give me gradual color just a bit quicker than the regular one but still a little more mistake proof than a regular self tanner. I believe Jergen's Express Glow is supposed to give you color in about half the time of the regular gradual tanners. I bought it in medium.

I have used this product for several days in a row and it has given me a nice light tan, more brown than orange that I sometimes get from the other products. Overall I am happy with the color and it does seem to work a little quicker than the regular one. It is impossible to get away from the smell of self tanner but I don't mind the light almost clean, floral fragrance of Jergen's Express Glow, and the gradual tanner smell does not seem quite as strong as some other brands. I usually apply it right before bed and then shower in the morning with a nice scented body wash. I have not noticed it staining my sheets although I have seen a little bit of it around the neck of my flannel pj's. So far it has always washed out.

I use this product for several days to get a good base and then I continue to top it up with the regular Jergen's or Nivea gradual self tanner. This seems to work without the color becoming orange. I also loofah on a regular basis and restart the process as gradual tanner can become patchy if layered on too many days in a row. I have only two complaints:
1) I feel it fades just a bit faster than regular gradual tanners but that could just be my skin. 2) I hate the packaging! All other Jergen's Natural Glow products are in a soft, easy to squeeze bottle. Jergen's Express Glow is in a stiff plastic bottle which makes it not only hard to squeeze with lotion covered hands, but makes it hard to get the lotion out when it starts getting low in the bottle.

Overall, I would recommend Jergen's Express Glow for a slightly quicker natural looking glow.
